Italian tissue company Lucart has commissioned a new combined heat and power plant at its Castelnuovo di Garfagnana tissue mill. Developed and supplied by Valmet, the CHP installation is part of Lucart Group's roughly EUR4 million investment in upgrading the mill.
Comprising a gas turbine and a heat recovery steam generator, the plant covers all the electricity and steam needs of the site. As a result, drying costs in the tissue production process are decreased significantly.
The cogeneration equipment includes a new air system with fans, burners, dampers, ducting and instrumentation for the existing hood. Furthermore the system includes an air/air heat recovery and an air/water heat recovery system.
It is expected to reduce natural gas consumption at the site by 15-20% per year.
Luigino Furlan, Vice President DCD Technology Unit of Valmet, said: ‘The people who envisioned, shared, built and implemented this project and the special relationship established between the teams, represent the corner stones for this achievement.’
