Pedestrian-generated on-site power for US school

A technology which can generate on-site power from pedestrian traffic has been installed at Bloomington High School South in the state of Indiana, in the US.

The Pavegen system within the school’s main entrance powers educational boards and a phone-charging station through student and staff footfall.

A modular floor matting system, the top surface of the flooring unit is made from 100% recycled rubber and each tile produces around 4 W each time it is stepped upon. The technology is designed to power LED lighting and similar low demand applications.
