Halcyon Drives using on-site solar to cut power costs

A supplier of variable-speed drives has installed an on-site photovoltaic power plant at its facilities in Leeds in the UK.

Halcyon Drives converted the roof of its site to using 120 solar panels (pictured) capable of generating 30 kW of power and an ABB TRIO solar inverter. The cost of the installation was £31,000 ($46,000) and Halcyon expects to recover this investment on electricity savings alone in two and a half years.

Installed by local company Leeds Solar, the system is capable of running all the heating, lighting and machine tools used in Halcyon’s factory.
