CCHP to power US casino

A new casino in Baltimore, Maryland, US is to run on combined cooling, heating and power.

The continuous electricity and climate control demands of the US$442 million Horseshoe Casino, which will be the state’s second-largest casino when it opens later this year, will be provided by a CCHP trigeneration system from MTU Onsite Energy.

The gas-fired Series 4000 CHP system will produce 1149 kWe and 4,137,000 Btu of heat per hour, providing ‘a significant portion’ of the casino’s energy, heating and cooling needs, MTU Onsite Energy said.

MTU will also provide a 450 kWe diesel-powered Series 1600 backup genset, the company’s first US sale of a diesel generator and gas-powered CHP system.

The two-storey casino will feature a 122,000-square foot gaming floor, which will house 100 table games, 2500 slot machines and a 25-table World Series of Poker room, plus a Baltimore Marketplace featuring several eateries as well as multiple restaurants led by celebrity chefs.
