Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, China’s largest publisher, owns the Nanjing Phoenix data centre in Nanjing, China, which is powered by a 6 MW CCHP system.
The system uses three C2000 N5C generator sets from Cummins Power Generation. Exhaust gas and jacket water heat are retrieved, while the heat generated by the equipment is cooled by chilled water.
Initial plans for the data centre were based on 10 2000 kW diesel gensets, but analysis found that replacing some of them with gas-fuelled alternatives could save an annual RMB15 million (US$2.4 million) and cut NOx and greenhouse gas emissions by over 50%.
According to Cummins Power Generation the plant was installed and a trial startup performed in a record-breaking seven days.
