London exhibition and conference centre to get CHP

GDF Suez’s energy and environmental efficiency services firm Cofely will install 2.6 MWe of CHP and an additional cooling plant at the 100,000 square metre ExCeL exhibition and conference centre in London, UK.

London The venue’s energy centre, which Cofely has acquired, currently has the capacity for 18 MW of heating and 5 MW of cooling, but the envelope of the building can contain significantly more plant and was built to supply energy to the wider area. In addition to the CHP installation, Cofely plans to replace the existing 300 metres of pipework that serves the centre.

When the ExCeL network is connected to Cofely’s existing network, the resulting 230 MW of heating capacity will be able to heat the equivalent of 45,000 homes, and will enable the network to serve additional hotels, offices and homes.

Cofely has also signed a 40 year energy services contract with ExCeL to supply heat, chilled water and CHP-generated electricity to the venue.
