E.ON engaged in reducing UK NHS energy bills

E.ON has secured places on four major UK procurement frameworks for public sector projects including the NHS Shared Business Services and Birmingham Buy For Good (BFG) agreements, with on-site power and cogeneration solutions featuring.
The frameworks are designed to provide energy efficiency and on-site generation solutions from pre-approved and qualified suppliers to the public health sector, local authorities and charity groups looking to reduce energy bills and lower their carbon footprint.

Richard Scott, Head of Energy Efficiency at E.ON Connecting Energies, said: “The NHS faces a huge challenge to meet targets to cut its carbon footprint by 80% by 2050, and meeting that challenge will be difficult, especially in straitened financial times.
Recent NHS projects involving E.ON include one at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham - E.ON is preferred bidder for an EPC guaranteeing savings through a range of energy efficiency measures including an upgrade to their existing combined heat and power (CHP) plant.

Meanwhile at Newham University Hospital, one of the first of London’s RE:FIT projects saw measures installed by E.ON with projected savings of £50,000 a year. The investment cut carbon emissions by 732 tonnes a year, reducing the Trust’s CRC liability by £9,000 per year. This award winning project is now moving into a second phase of measures to further reduce energy savings.

Finally a 50kW array of on-site solar panels at Birmingham and West Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) will save 50 tonnes of CO2 per year and will save Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust around £8,000 per year.
