Tropical Power, a developer of biogas and solar plants in Africa, has signed a deal with Clarke Energy to supply two containerised Jenbacher engines, which will run on biogas.
The biogas will be produced by an on-site anaerobic digestion facility, processing food processing wastes coming from the local area.
The biogas will be fed into 2 x J420 Jenbacher gas engines from GE, which will operate in a CHP configuration and make the plant highly efficient.
It will produce 2.4 MW of electricity for the farm and the surrounding area – said to sufficient to power up to 6000 homes, and the surplus heat recovered as hot water and used to heat the biogas plant process, as well as for heating adjacent greenhouses.
Clarke Energy is contracted not only to supply, but also engineer and install the CHP generators.
The biogas engines are scheduled for delivery to Kenya in the last quarter of 2013.
