New distributed generation projects are poised to benefit from proposed changes to interconnection rules by the US’s Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP) and Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA), which cover interconnecting facilities of 20 MW and less, would be eased by four reforms.
Before making their request, customers would be able to ask for information to help evaluate interconnection points. A capacity cap on the fast track procedure would be extended from 2 MW up to 5 MW. Review procedures would be revised. Interconnection customers would get to comment in writing on necessary grid upgrades.
