Brazil pulp mill fires up on-site CHP

A Metso evaporation plant and recovery boiler at a Eldorado Celulose e Papel S.A. mill in Brazil were officially inaugurated on 12 December.

An evaporation plant, with a capacity of 1,600 tonnes/hour of evaporated water, will concentrate black liquor up to 80% dry solids content for firing the Três Lagoas mill’s recovery boiler.

The recovery boiler has a 6,800-tonne dry solid/ black liquor daily burning capacity and generates 1,109 tonnes of steam/hour for the pulp manufacturing process. Power from the system will meet all the mill’s needs with a significant surplus.

Três Lagoas mill is described by Eldorado as the world’s largest single-line pulp mill. The recovery boiler is also among the world’s largest in operation, according to Metso.
