America’s largest online biogas fuel cell plant operational

The largest biogas fuel cell plant in the US commenced at the end of last week as part of the Inland Empire Utilities Agency’s (IEUA) “Go Gridless” initiative.

The 2.8 MW plant converts wastewater treatment biogas straight into non-combustion, non-polluting electricity and usable high-quality heat in a combined heat & power (CHP) configuration.

IEUA Fuelcell

It meets almost all of IEUA’s baseload power needs at its Regional Plant 1 in Ontario, California, one of five wastewater treatment facilities operated by IEUA.
