US firm supplies Chinese rail with solar power

US company Ascent Solar has teamed up with China’s Shenzhen Radiant Enterprise and Third Railway Survey and the Design Institute Group Corporation (TSDI) to promote the use of solar technology in Chinese public transport.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels supplied by Ascent will be added to existing and future railway stations throughout China, with Radiant set to conduct the installation, reports New Net.

The total capacity of panels added is projected to reach 800 MW over the next five years.

Victor Lee, president and CEO of Ascent, said, ‘We are honoured to be involved with TSDI through this very important partnership, which will promote Ascent Solar’s transformational technology in a high-profile sector of China’s public infrastructure.
