AECOM to install CHP system in Sheffield, UK

AECOM Technology has announced today that it has been awarded two design-build contracts with a combined value of $64m to upgrade the Blackburn Meadows Wastewater Treatment Plant for Yorkshire Water in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Part of the contract involves provision of a new mesophilic anaerobic digestion plant.

This project will treat all sludge from Blackburn Meadows and the surrounding wastewater treatment works. The plant will be designed to treat up to 21,000 tons of dry solid sludge annually, including thickening and dewatering processes, as well as minimizing Yorkshire Water’s carbon footprint by producing renewable energy via a combined heat and power system.
