Sun shines on Cornwall ‘eco hotel’ with solar PV

Anesco has powered up Premier Inn’s first ‘Eco hotel’, after managing the design and installation of a rooftop solar PV system.

Camborne hotel, based in Cornwall, is part of a major drive by parent company Whitbread to improve it green credentials by moving towards environmentally sound business practices.

The 65-bedroom site opened in January and features a number of in-built efficiency measures, designed to reduce energy usage.

The 9.52kw peak system installed by national energy efficiency solutions company, Anesco, will produce 8000kw hours of electricity per year and help to offset 4.5 tons of carbon annually.

Energy generated by the scheme will be used to power the eco hotel, including four electric car charging points in the car park. All excess energy will be fed back into the national grid as part of the Government’s Feed in Tariff scheme.

Adrian Pike, CEO of Anesco, said: “Camborne Hotel is a great example of how energy saving measures can be adopted and used within the hospitality sector. With energy usage one of the greatest expenditures for the industry, implementing such measures can bring substantial long term benefits for organisations looking to reduce their emissions and energy bills.
