Kingspan purchases on-site wind specialist Proven Energy

The assets of small wind turbine manufacturer Proven Energy, currently in receivership, has been sold to Ireland’s Kingspan Renewables in a move aimed at safeguarding Proven’s manufacturing facility in Scotland.

Kingspan says it plans to launch microgeneration-scale 6 kW and 3 kW turbines, incorporating the key features of Proven’s core P11 and P7 models.

A decision on whether or not to launch a 15 kW turbine will be made at a later date, but any launch is unlikely to be before January 2013.

Proven Energy was founded in 1980 and around 3500 of its wind turbines have been installed in more than 60 countries over the past 31 years. It was forced into receivership in September after a design fault was found in its P35-2 turbine.

The company also warned customers to stop using its 12 kW turbine.

The takeover comes in the wake of a new study from Pike Research, which predicts that the global market for small wind turbines will more than double over the next five years, rising from US$255 million last year to $634 million by 2015.
