GE supplies turbine for cogen plant in Italy

Termica Colleferro has chosen GE Energy’s LM2500+ G4 DLE aeroderivative gas turbine technology for a 40 MW combined-cycle cogeneration power plant in the industrial district of Colleferro, near Rome.

Under the EUR10.5 million (US$15 million) contract, GE will provide the gas turbine plus a steam turbine and related equipment to replace an existing installation at the production facilities of Avio Group’s Space Division there.

Termica Colleferro is a joint company formed by Seci Energia, part of the Maccaferri Industrial Group, and Avio Group, an aerospace company.

The plant is expected to begin commercial operation in January 2012.

The new plant also will supply energy for a heating system serving nearby industrial facilities. Once it is operational, the plant will be able to produce 300 GWh/year of electric energy and 110 GWh/year of thermal energy
