Lakeland Electric will build a 5.5 MW solar photovoltaic farm to bedeployed at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

SunEdison will finance and deploy the solar farm. Lakeland Electric signed a 25-year power purchase agreement to buy power generated from the project.

The first phase is expected to break ground in June 2011 and be completed by the end of the year. The second phase is expected to be finished in 2012.
