North Carolina State University has contracted with energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions company,
, to implement a number of energy conservation measures at two campus central utility plants.
The project focuses on improving the reliability and efficiency of campus central steam and chilled water generation.
Most significantly, this US$56 million energy saving performance contract will add cogeneration equipment that will provide 11 MW of electricity generation and 100,000 lbs/h of steam generation at one facility.
The other facility is designed to receive upgrades that will provide for another 300,000 lbs/h of new steam generating capacity.
Implementation of all the planned energy conservation measures at the two central utility plants is expected to provide the university with average annual energy savings of around $6.5 million.
The university aims to meet a third of peak demand from its on-site generation plant.
