The new system is designed to replace traditional hydraulic fracturing trailers or 'missiles' to reportedly 'more than double the useful life of pump components that most frequently fail,' declares the manufacturer.
VorTeq reroutes proppant-filled fluid away from high-pressure pumps on frac sites so they only process fresh water. The system channels abrasive fluids and sends them down the wellbore.
Core of this hydraulic pumping system is the maker's Pressure Exchanger technology, already used in more than 15,000 desalination installations. It handles up to 110 bbl/min with a 15,000 psi treating pressure. With one moving part and made from tungsten carbide, PX is declared 1,000-times more abrasion-resistant than steel.
