In the oil and gas industry, carbide is indispensable due to its durability. Whether in sealing technology, in pump, valve and fitting construction or in measurement and regulation technology: Carbide-tipped elements can be used wherever high wear protection is required. They reduce wear and increase durability.
For the midstream area, DURIT Hartmetall GmbH provides a wide range of specially-developed carbide varieties. These are particularly used in valve elements such as pistons, hubs, regulation devices and reduction retainers, as well as in machine elements such as seals, slip rings, support rings and bearing rings. The experts from DURIT Hartmetall custom-make all components and elements.
A current example: Reduction retainers in valves (see photo) are used to reduce the feed pressure in the system. The components that were used up to now were made of hardened tool steel and no longer achieved the required durability. The customer was looking for a replacement construction material that had the same chemical durability but higher resistance against wear. Using carbide, with chrome/nickel bonders in this case, immediately improved the durability of the components by a number of weeks. At the same time, the maintenance intervals reduced, which in turn reduced servicing costs.
