Wellhead components mfr. builds its largest-diameter-ever devices

This wellhead components manufacturer recently custom-built the three largest-diameter units in its 40-year history.

The rotating control devices were 'built from the ground up' for a geothermal driller working in Indonesia. The company delivered a custom 30-in. flanged bowl, 36-in. slip-on, and 40-in. slip-on. With adapter assembly, the bowl weighs about 3,000 lb. The 36-in. slip-on with adapter shipped at 2,975 lb. The 40-in. slip-on, adapter included, weighs 1,200 lb.

The large-diameter components were fabricated for geothermal but would "work equally well in gas or oil drilling," notes the manufacturer. "The Marcellus and Utica natural-gas industries have changed everything."

Rotating control devices from this manufacturer continuously seal off drill string components plus divert all cuttings and debris away from the rig.
