They measure surface temperature once every 16-cm2 compared to one measurement every 250 cm2 in thermocouple types. By measuring temperatures in more locations, you receive earlier refractory or breakdown detection. This enables greater protection against catastrophic vessel failure and extension of refractory life based on actual data.
Their harsh-environment-applicable cameras are placed to view all vessel parts including critical cone and dome sections. Each records over 110,000 individual measurements to ensure detection of even the smallest degradation. Measurements are reported using graphical software. It signals an alarm if a potential breakout is detected plus compiles temperature trends to support refractory wear statistical analysis.
