New EPD Environmental Protection Devices (patents applied for) not only relieve excess pressure when a relief valve leaks — they also audibly “squeak” leak notification.
These devices are for discharge piping on safety devices in process and compression equipment, compression and separation, or liquid, gas, and mixed phase flow applications.
They’re designed to withstand up to 3,000 psi over -45° to +300°F. on 1/2 through 4-in. relief valves.
A whistle is installed in the device to produce shrill-noise-indication in the event a relief valve is leaking. In the event of system upset, the valve opens to relieve excess pressure. The device is discharged from the vent pipe. A strong nylon tether assures EPD remains with its valve.
EDP accuracy: Pressure above 2-oz/sq in. will cause whistle activation; pressures above 4-oz/sq in. will cause the device to discharge from the pipe.
