Terranox DTH down-the-hole hammers are added to this company’s geotechnical drilling equipment package.
They’re designed for percussive geotechnical drilling where low pressure drilling is important when drilling in overburden ground conditions — as air from DTH drilling may unconsolidate the ground. This decreases capacity of existing foundations. In these circumstances, lower air pressure (174 to 261 psi) is recommended. This is where Terranox DTH hammers function.
Models utilize a proven DHD shank on the bits and Symmetrix pilot bit. They come in five sizes. The Terranox 3 is 35 1/2-in. long with 3 1/8-in. OD. Sizes range up to a 56 13/16-in. length and 7 1/8-in. OD.
Choosing the right down-the-hole hammer is largely determined by hole size and type of ground conditions. Hammer size should match required hole dimension as closely as possible leaving just enough space for cuttings to evacuate the hole
