Secoroc PARD system is on the market to “combine the best of DTH and rotary drilling technology.”
It consolidates a high-frequency, low-impact DTH hammer and specially designed tricone drill bit — mounted onto a standard rotary drill rig and drill string.
The combination of percussive power and rotational force is said to provide “significant increases in the rate of penetration. In fact, case studies show ROP increases of up to 50%.”
The hammer operates on 50 to 110 psi, said to be low compared to standard DTH types. Optimal air flow is achieved with a parallel air flow system which distributes air proportionately between the hammer and tricone drill bit. The bits are engineered to withstand additional stresses and strains — yet still retain the same service of standard tricone bits. Two systems are available for quarries and large mines where 9 7/8 to 12 1/4-in. blast holes are standard.
