Specialized CBM pumps are shown and described in this free datasheet for coal bed gas fields.
Models are cited as designed to eliminate gas lock and counteract coal particle from packing and binding up a conventional pump. It’s noted most coal bed methane wells will produce coal dust that compact and bind-up a conventional design.
The pump’s plunger is a solid rod. It pushes rather than pulls fluid to the surface. There is less work for the unit to do since the weight of the rod string is used to push the fluid.
Among CBM advantages noted in the datasheet: less moving parts to pack, less parts cause lower replacement or repair costs, fluid is agitated to prevent pump from sanding in, and ideal for trashy well conditions.
