Nonmagnetic connectors made for harsh environment function

New nonmagnetic Micro-D connectors help engineers design electronic components for use in applications where nonmagnetic characteristics are required. This includes LWD and MWD components. The firm typically builds packaging and integrates the connectors per user design. The oil industry customer then populates the packages with electronics.

Connectors combine MIL-PRF-83513-compliant Micro-D interface with very low magnetic permeability characteristics. Micro-D’s shell comprises titanium and Inconel because this combination delivers required strength, expansion coefficients, and low magnetic permeability. The metals are joined using the manufacturer’s explosive metal welding processes.
