Heavy oil, bitumen upgraded via ‘cold cracking’ tech and process

Upgrading heavy oil and bitumen is achieved via PetroBeam electron beam processing “cold cracking” and “e-beam” technology.

The patent-pending proprietary process uses high-energy electrons to transform the thickest part of crude oil into lighter, more valuable gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

PetroBeam process “delivers a more cost-effective and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional thermal solutions,” according to its developer. This includes thermocatalytic configurations.

By applying e-beam electron beam processing techniques, chain-scissioning of carbon-carbon bonds in petroleum is initiated. This reduces petroleum density and viscosity by converting heavier molecular weight fractions into less viscous and more valuable products.

The process uses electricity rather than heat generated from natural gas to affect crude oil changes. The process does not require expensive catalysts. It is also used in partial field-upgrading or to enhance refinery yields of heavy oil and bitumen.
